Chest Reduction
After The Chest Reduction Operation
Postoperative Management
You will be required to spend 1 night in hospital following a chest reduction operation before being discharged home. You will be issued with a telephone number to ring in the event of a problem or query.
You are advised to take things easy for a few days afterwards and gradually increase your activities according to how you feel.
Pressure dressings should be left on for seven days before being removed but the support garment should be worn for several weeks following chest reduction surgery. The purpose of such a garment is to reduce bruising and swelling in the immediate postoperative period and in the longer term it will help to mould the tissues to their final resting shape.
Normal exercise can be resumed as soon as you feel comfortable to.
You must attend a follow up appointment with the surgeon a week to ten days after your surgery for review and if necessary, stitch removal.
Recovery & Results Following Chest Reduction
Most men will recover very quickly following a chest reduction procedure and unless their job involves physical exertion will usually go back to work after a week. Those whose work involves heavy physical activity should refrain from work for a further week or two.
Although the result is apparent after a few days it can take several weeks to get the final shape.
