Introduction to
Chest Reduction Surgery

Chest reduction is an increasingly popular operation in males which removes/reduces enlarged male breasts, commonly referred to as "man boobs" or “moobs”.

There are 3 reasons why the male breast enlarges:

1. If there is an abnormal increase in glandular (breast) tissue known as Gynaecomastia.
2. If there is an increased deposition of fatty tissue known as Pseudogynaecomastia
3. If there is an increase of both glandular and fatty tissue.

The most common reason for enlarged breasts in males is Pseudogynaecomastia.

During adolescence it is common for the male breast to enlarge and later to decrease to normal size before the age of 21.

Gynaecomastia in the late adolescent and adult male may be associated with hormone disorders, hormone producing tumours, liver disease and other rare abnormalities. In addition, various drugs, if taken for long enough can give rise to this embarrassing condition. Usually though, no underlying cause is found.

The Dublin Cosmetic Surgery Centre has successfully performed chest reductions on many men in the last 25 years.

FREE Chest Reduction Surgery consultatons with highly experienced cosmetic surgeons are available at our Dublin or Mullingar clinic.
