After The Ear Reshape Operation


Postoperative Management

You will be required to spend 1 night in hospital following an ear reshape operation before being discharged home. You will be issued with a telephone number to ring in the event of a problem or query.

The turban bandage is removed prior to discharge home the next day. It is advised to wear a bandage at night for about 10 days afterwards in order to protect the ears from being traumatised or pulled during sleep.

You must attend a follow up appointment with the surgeon a week to ten days after your ear reshape operation (otoplasty) for review.

Recovery & Results Following Ear Reshape

After the ear reshape operation (otoplasty) the ears are bruised and swollen at first and initially may appear overcorrected but attain a normal position and shape after a few days.

It must be realised that surgery is not an exact science so that it is not feasible to expect the final position of the ears to be in the exact position as requested before the ear reshape operation (otoplasty). Human tissue cannot be resculptured in the same manner as a piece of wood for example. Whereas every effort will be made to attain the result discussed at preoperative consultation promises or guarantees cannot be given.

This is one of the most frequent and successful operations in cosmetic surgery and once healed, ears that used to be a source of great embarrassment should look normal. The result is permanent.
