Before The Nose Reshape Operation
Introduction to Nose Reshape
Corrective nasal surgery, more commonly known as a “nose job”, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed today. The aim of a nose reshape operation (rhinoplasty) is to change the size and shape of a nose, which is considered unfavourable by the person, to a more pleasing aesthetic appearance.
Noses vary in size and shape according to ethnic, inherited as well as physical factors (injuries).
The Dublin Cosmetic Surgery Centre has successfully performed nose reshapes on many men in over 20 years.
Am I Suitable For Nose Reshape?
The best candidates for a nose reshape operation are those who do not like the size and shape of their noses, and who may be very self-conscious of being seen in profile, but who will accept an improvement, even if the result is not perfect.
Factors to Consider Before Nose Reshape
The final result of a nose reshape operation (rhinoplasty) will be affected by the following factors:
• The contour and shape of the face
• The texture and thickness of the skin
• The inclination of the chin, lip and forehead
• The depth of the angle between the forehead and the nose
• The healing powers of the tissues
Previous airway obstruction may occasionally be made worse following a nose reshape operation.
Severely deformed noses are very difficult to correct and there is always a limit to the amount of correction possible. Improvement and not perfection is the aim.
You will need to take 10 days off work after a nose reshape operation..
The Nose Reshape Consultation
At the preoperative consultation for nose reshape (rhinoplasty) you will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire before you see the surgeon. After reviewing your medical history, the surgeon will specifically discuss what you dislike about your nose and what changes you wish to achieve. He will be particularly interested in any previous trauma to your nose especially if there is a proven history of nasal bone fracture or any previous surgery to your nose.
The surgeon will then examine the size, overall shape, quality and thickness of overlying skin, as well as the airflow in the passages of your nose. He will then outline what he can achieve with nasal surgery and give you a detailed explanation of the nose reshape procedure, the likely result and the usual course of postoperative events. The surgeon will also be happy to answer any questions you may have about the nose reshape operation.
At the end of the consultation, you will be issued with detailed written information about the nose reshape operation (rhinoplasty) which you are strongly advised to read carefully at home. If you have any further queries/concerns, these can be discussed with the surgeon at a further consultation.
