Inverted Nipple Correction
The Operation
Day of Inverted Nipple Correction Surgery
Important factors to be fully aware of before an inverted nipple correction operation are:
1. Driving
You will be able to drive home after an inverted nipple correction operation but we thoroughly recommend that you are driven home by someone.
2. Eating & Drinking
Abstain from all food and drink (including sweets and water) for at least 4 hours before your inverted nipple correction operation.
The operating surgeon will see you to answer any final questions/queries you may have about the inverted nipple correction procedure before taking preoperative photographs of your nipples.
The Inverted Nipple Correction Operation
An inverted nipple correction operation usually takes 30 minutes and is performed under local anaesthetic.
A tiny incision is made at the base of the nipple, cutting through the fibres and some milk ducts which pull the nipple inwards. This releases (everts) the nipple outwards. Further tiny incisions are made at the base of the nipple.
Stitches are then inserted via these incisions, which, when tied will close the tissue defect beneath the nipple in an attempt to prevent it from inverting. The stitches disappear beneath the skin so that they are not visible on the outside.
A dressing is applied to cover the nipple/areola area.
