After The Nose Reshape Operation
Postoperative Management
You will be required to spend 1 night in hospital following a nose reshape operation (rhinoplasty) before being discharged home. You will be issued with a telephone number to ring in the event of a problem or query.
Until the splint is removed you are advised to:
• Rest as much as possible
• Sleep upright
• Sneeze through the mouth
• Avoid blowing the nose
Ice packs can be applied to the eyes to help reduce bruising and swelling.
The hair should be washed carefully until the splint is removed as soaking it with water may dislodge it.
Glasses may be worn on top of the splint if this is possible but once it is removed it is advised that glasses should not be allowed to rest on the nose for a few weeks.
Contact lenses can be inserted after a few days.
Strenuous exercise should be avoided for four weeks. After that time non-body-contact sports are permitted but body-contact sports are prohibited for six months.
You must attend a follow up appointment with the surgeon a week to ten days after your surgery for review and splint removal.
Recovery & Results Following Nose Reshape
Nasal fractures heal very quickly and after ten days or so it would take a significant blow to do any harm. The nose will be as strong as it ever was at about three months and after six months would be even stronger because the fractured bones are stronger than they were originally.
Most patients are delighted with the result of their nose reshape operation (rhinoplasty), which is generally very successful in experienced hands. They should be much less self-conscious and be able to be seen from all sides with confidence.
