Day of Lip Enlargement Treatment

An important factor to be fully aware of before a lip enlargement procedure is:

Driving: You will be able to drive home after the procedure but we thoroughly recommend that you are driven home by someone.

The surgeon will answer any final questions/queries you may have about the lip enlargement procedure before taking preoperative photographs of your lips.

The Lip Enlargement Treatment

A lip enlargement procedure usually takes about 30 minutes to complete if an implant is used and is performed under local anaesthetic. If filler is used, the procedure only takes a few minutes to complete and is also performed under local anaesthetic.

When using a permanent implant, the lip is first anaesthetised with local anaesthetic. A tiny incision is made at one side of the lip and a tunnel is created along the margin of the upper/lower lip using a specially designed forceps. The tip of the forceps emerges through a tiny incision made at the opposite side of the lip. The forceps can then grasp the silicone implant and thread it through the lip by pulling it through. Final adjustments are then made by manipulating the implant under the lip tissue. A thin rapidly dissolvable stitch then closes both incisions.

When using a filler, the lip is numbed using local anaesthetic cream or by injecting local anaesthetic solution. The filler is injected carefully along the white line where the vermilion (pink part) of the lip meets the normal skin. Some filler is also injected into the two midline ridges above the lip (philtrum). Filler can also be injected into the substance of the lip.
